Dame Elizabeth Jane Campion is the only female director to win the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for her period drama “The Piano.” Best known as Jane Campion, she is a director, screenwriter, and producer from New Zealand. Eldest Child Of Jane Campion
The director, Jane, got married to the Australian director, Colin David Englert, in 1992. Colin Englert was a second unit director for The Piano. Jasper’s parents welcomed him as their first child in June 1993.
In the same year, Jasper’s mother-directed movie gained huge success and lots of positive reviews. The Piano was made and edited while the director, Jane Campion was pregnant with her son Jasper Englert. Even during pregnancy, Campion made such a great movie which earned 64 awards of different categories, including three Oscars.
The director couple must have been over the moon for acquiring success both in personal and professional life at once. But for Jane, motherhood must have occupied a bigger place in her heart than winning the award.

Sadly, Jane Campion’s Son Only Survived For A Few Days
Oftentimes life takes a strange turn. Just when you get excited and feel like you know what direction you’re heading in, the path changes, the signs change, the wind blows the other way, north is suddenly south, and east is west, and you are lost.
Jane Campion’s son, Jasper was delivered via emergency Caesarean section in the middle of June of 1993. Jane and her husband were told that their son could not live outside an incubator. On the twelfth day of his birth, Jane and Colin took their son home, where Jasper couldn’t survive by the following dawn.
The Power of Dog director must have felt lost when she had to accept the death of her firstborn. Jane Campion’s little boy, Jasper Englert, died on the twelfth day after he was born. It was shortly after she took The Piano to Cannes.
As reported by Vanity Fair, Jane couldn’t do anything and was too stunned by grief. While accepting the Oscar with teary eyes, she shared about her loss.
