Unlike most dating shows that focus on pairing singles together, The Ultimatum takes things up a notch by casting already existing couples, and forcing them to examine the future of their relationship. One person in each couple issues the other the titular ultimatum, and then they must decide if they're ready to take the next step together, or if they want to remain single.

The twist here is that during the course of the show, each person will be coupled up with a new person, and they can also decide they want to leave their original partner and start a new relationship altogether. The first season of the show featured five couples from Austin, Texas, and the next edition, (technically a spinoff titled The Ultimatum: Queer Love), featured five queer couples in San Diego.

Season 2 of the main Ultimatum series will premiere in two batches—episodes 1-8 will premiere on August 23, and the ninth and tenth episode will air a week later, on August 30. The couples that hail from South Carolina, and just like the previous seasons, each couple has a different reason for giving, or being given, the ultimatum.
